Arcata Volunteer Firefighters Celebrated for Grant Success at June Board Meeting
The Arcata Fire Protection Districts Board of Directors convened on June 10th for their regularly scheduled meeting, covering a range of topics impacting the community. While the full agenda wasn't explicitly detailed in the available video recording, key highlights included a positive report from the Arcata Volunteer Fire Association (AVFA) and a review of a recent incident.
The meeting began with the unanimous approval of the agenda. A representative from the AVFA then presented their monthly report, detailing 51 volunteer hours contributed in May. The report also showcased the AVFAs active participation in training, including drivers training. Looking ahead, the AVFA will be contributing to the annual crabs feed on June 26th, providing both food and setup, and will participate in the Arcata Fire Districts holiday dinner on November 14th at the Arcata Masonic Lodge. Furthermore, they are working with the Arcata Fire District Chief to participate in next April's awards ceremony.
The AVFA report focused heavily on the significant impact of grants received from the Burt Foundation. These grants have provided the AVFA with essential equipment, including a Gator utility vehicle, pump accessories, various tools, medical equipment, ballistic vests and helmets, a Lucas device, and CPR training equipment. The AVFA expressed gratitude to the Board for their ongoing support.
An incident review highlighted the effective deployment of the Gator to a location approximately a quarter-mile down the Hammond Trail. The swift response and coordinated efforts of the team were praised. A brief update on the upcoming chili cook-off was also provided, though specifics weren't detailed in the recording. The meeting concluded with a closed session.
No public comments were recorded during the meeting. The next meeting of the Arcata Fire District Board of Directors will be held on the second Tuesday of July.
