Fortuna Planning Commission Greenlights Senior Housing Project
Fortuna Planning Commission Greenlights Senior Housing Project
The Fortuna Planning Commission gave its unanimous approval to a significant senior housing project at its June 24th meeting. The project, the Humboldt Senior Resource Center, will bring 66 supportive-care units to the community, providing housing for seniors and people with disabilities. The decision followed a detailed presentation and public comment period.
The commission reviewed and approved the minutes from previous meetings before turning to the main agenda item: the Humboldt Senior Resource Center. This involved approving an addendum to the existing McLean Community Center mitigated negative declaration, a conditional use permit, a design review, and a two-year entitlement vesting period (State Clearinghouse #20016122057). The project, located at [Location needs to be added from the video], also required two waivers: a 40% reduction in open space requirements and a reduction in the number of off-street parking spaces. These waivers were also approved unanimously.
The presentation highlighted key features of the project, including on-site services, paratransit service, and landscaping. Addressing potential traffic concerns, Greenway Partners, representing the project, emphasized that paratransit would be the primary mode of transportation for residents. The McLean Foundation, in support of the project, clarified that the 27 off-street parking spaces were allocated for staff, visitors, and paratransit vans. They also addressed questions from the public about potential occupancy and the use of Redwood Transit Service. Two members of the public offered comments, both supportive of the project. The online public comment period received no input.
The commission approved Resolutions P-2025-3129 and P-2025-3130, formally approving the addendum, conditional use permit, design review, and waivers. The applicant is now responsible for obtaining all necessary permits and completing the lot line adjustment before construction can begin.
Following the approval, the commission announced the cancellation of their next meeting due to outstanding items that require attention before the next scheduled session. Further details regarding the rescheduling of the meeting were not provided.
