Trinidad Planning Commission Addresses Blufftop Trail, Development Permit, and Safety Concerns
The Trinidad Planning Commission convened on March 19th, 2025, for a meeting covering a range of topics impacting the community. Commissioners Trevor Parker, Richard Johnson, Roland Johnsen, and Tristan Cole were in attendance, deliberating on projects and plans that will shape Trinidad's future.
One significant item on the agenda was the proposed Blufftop Trail. While no decisions were made regarding the project's funding or specific stabilization methods during this meeting, Commissioner Parker was tasked with creating a detailed work scope for future consideration. The commission expressed interest in moving forward with the project and the grant associated with it.
Another key focus was a design review and coastal development permit application for an addition to a residence at 104 West Haven Drive. Applicant Susan Rowland addressed concerns from the commission regarding the addition's height, explaining that the measurement was taken from the average ground elevation and the design integrated into the hillside. After discussion, the commission voted to approve the project, contingent upon Rowland providing additional information to clarify the height issue.
The final major agenda item involved the ongoing update of the General Plan's safety element. Commissioners voiced concerns about the lack of updated data and the need for consistency with other planning documents. Commissioner Parker was assigned the task of obtaining and providing this updated information for the next meeting.
No public comments were received during the meeting. However, a significant announcement was made regarding a joint meeting scheduled for April with the City Council to further discuss the General Plan update and the Roadlines project (104 West Haven Drive).
Residents interested in learning more about these projects or participating in future meetings can access meeting agendas and minutes at https://trinidad.ca.gov/document. The next Trinidad Planning Commission meeting will include a review of the updated information provided by Commissioner Parker, and the joint meeting with the City Council will provide further opportunities for public engagement.
